Parents & Community - School Chaplain

School Chaplains currently visit River Valley Primary School two days a week.

School Chaplains make a valuable contribution to the social and emotional wellbeing of school communities across Western Australia. They do not promote a specific set of religious beliefs, instead they provide support and guidance about ethics, values, relationships and spiritual issues, and help students engage with the broader community. Chaplains respect, accept and are sensitive to other people’s views, values and beliefs and they are part of our school’s pastoral care team.  The Chaplain is another adult that students can approach to discuss issues or just to have a chat.

YouthCARE Chaplaincy in State Schools provides and integral role in meeting the needs of children.  The Chaplain works to build relationships with students, families and staff to be available to:

  • Offer pastoral care
  • Act as  a mentor
  • Provide a link between the school and the local community
  • Be a positive role model within the school

Referral Process:
On occasions, staff may feel that it would be helpful to refer children to the Chaplain. Students can also place a referral with the Chaplain. However, parental permission is always required before proceeding with a referral.

Parents may also request that their child see the Chaplain. Enquiries regarding how to access this service can be made by contacting the school office on 9586 0850 or email rivervalley.ps@education.wa.edu.au

If a parent has a concern about their child and would like to meet the Chaplain, feel free to call or email the school to schedule an appointment.
